***A Quick Word on Venue Etiquette***

We are always grateful to the venues that are willing to host us for our gatherings. Out of appreciation for their willingness to host and accommodate us and out of respect to the waitstaff who work hard to serve us, let’s make sure each of us are 1) Being extra-patient with and respectful of waitstaff who are waiting upon a sometimes extra-large group of us. 2) Paying not just our tab but tipping extra (20% is reasonable, customary, and highly recommended).

We are the Flower Mound Area Democrats. Showing our appreciation and respect for the venues that host us and the service workers that serve us in these spaces is not just about ensuring our image in the community is a positive one, it’s simply the right thing to do.

FMAD Club Events — December 2024

December, they say, is the month of joy, happiness, and to finish what you’ve started. And, according to Ralph Waldo Emerson, it’s also the time for remembering the past and reaching toward the future. And as Flower Mound Area Democrats, that’s just exactly what we plan to do and to incorporate into our end of year festivities and activities. No, the election did not go as we would have hoped. But our work here is not finished and there is still joy & happiness to be shared. And do it, we will. And share it, we shall. FMAD Club Events — November 2024

FMAD Club Events — November 2024

Okay, my friends & fellow FMAD Dems. We know this is a misery. How is everyone?

Where do we go from here? What more can we do? Do we fight? Do we flee? If you’re like us, you’ve had these questions and are still trying to formulate some answers. For us, the answer to the first question is absolutely onward. For the second, there’s always something we can do, it may just have to look different or be different in some ways than before. Fight? Yes, in some perhaps different ways. Just not each other. Flee? There’s a saying, “Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst.” It’s not going to be a bad idea for any of us to think about and perhaps even begin to lay tracks for some sort of exit, if we can, within the next four years. But until any of us have to go, we stay, we do the work, we mitigate this disaster. Not everyone will be able to move. We’ll want to do all we can for them.

We did sincerely think about canceling our November Club meeting. But we ultimately decided to give us all an opportunity to come together and commune and support and encourage one another. Because we are going to need to look out for each other and help each other in these coming days.

We will have a big lasagna or lasagna spaghetti dinner for everyone. Comfort food. (Here’s a link to the FB event: FMAD Lasagna Spaghetti Dinner ) Y’all can bring whatever sides or desserts you wish. Why? Because we’re here. We’re still here. Here for you. Here together. Here for our community. A force for good. A force for change. And we’re not going to stop trying for a better future.

Scary days ahead, for sure. But we are here. Here for each other.

We hope you’ll join us.

~ FMAD Leadership Team

P.S. No other activities are scheduled for this month. Rest up. Take care of yourselves & your loved ones. Enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday. We’ll see you in December.

FMAD Club Events — October 2024

FMAD Club Events — October 2024

We had a wonderful weekend at Lewisville Western Days and we met a lot of people who were beyond thrilled to see our banners flying and our booth full of democrats there. We were able to spread the word about our candidates and our club. But, more importantly, we spread hope! People in our area are EXCITED to vote for Kamala Harris & Tim Walz and dems all the way down the ballot. They’re hopeful. They’re optimistic. But, like us, they’re also cautious. They know we gotta keep focused, keep working, and keep our foot on the gas pedal. (We all lived through 2016 after all.) And now here we are. It’s October 2024. Thirty odd days away from an election that it is not hyperbolic to say could very well be the last our nation ever holds. And we are not stopping. And if you’re ridin’ with us, you’re not stopping either. So mark your calendars and join us for some or all of this month’s events.

FMAD Club Events — August 2024

New Month! New candidate at the top of our ticket! Ninety something days to go before the November election! Let’s do this!  Vice President Kamala Harris has reinvigorated voters around here and around this nation. She is about to officially become our party’s nominee. And I think we can all agree, her nomination (along with the entire month of July of 2024) is certainly one for the history books.

Are you excited? We are! The energy is electric, the momentum is in overdrive, and like President Joe Biden always reminds us, “There’s nothing we can’t accomplish if we do it together. Nothing.” So join us!  Mark your calendar for this month of FMAD meetings and events and make your plans to attend. Democracy is still in the balance and on all of our upcoming ballots. That hasn’t changed. But we have a new and exciting Democratic nominee for President, and that gives us hope!

“May you live in interesting times.”

Yes, we do seem to stay living in interesting times these days. Yes, we all want to find that person who cursed us with it.  But we have to recognize that right now, we have the opportunity to do great things. The future of our nation and whether or not it gets to continue on as a democracy or “a Republic, madam, if we can keep it,” depends on us and our combined efforts. If we come together and we do this right, we get to not only preserve our democracy and save our nation, if we come together and we do this right, we get to say, for the first time, together, as a nation, “Madam President.”

Join us.

We’ve had some great wins lately. And we want to keep that momentum going. But we’ve also had some big losses, particularly with the recent SCOTUS decisions. We must forge ahead though. We must continue fighting for our democracy. The future of our nation, whether or not we get to continue on as a democracy or “a Republic, madam, if we can keep it,” depends on us, Most empires only last 250 years. Our nation is 249. Let’s ensure she continues.

Join us in this fight.

We’ve had some great wins lately. Let’s keep the momentum going. We can win elections for Democrats up and down the ballot, locally, statewide, and nationally if we continue to work together to make it happen. And when we do that, we can bring about the legislative changes we all want and need to protect our rights and preserve our democracy.
