Hello Flower Mound Area Democrats Members!
It’s July in Texas. Summer is here, she’s in the mood to bake, and — once again — she’s about to set us and forget us. So come hang out with the coolest club in town! Cuz, hot or not, there’s lots we can accomplish together. So mark your calendar for this month of FMAD meetings & events and make your plans to join us! Or use the one we’ve created and attached here for you!
**Please note that because of the Independence Day holiday, we will not be hosting a First Fridays Happy Hour for the month of July.**
Independence Fest 2025
When: Thursday, July 4th, 5:00 pm – 10:30 pm
Where: Bakersfield Park, 1201 Duncan Ln., Flower Mound,
What: Live music, fun activities, food trucks, and fireworks — what could be better? As we celebrate our nation’s independence, now more than ever it’s important for the Democratic party to be visible as a force for good, the only side fighting to preserve our democracy, and the best alternative to the corruption and craziness of the radical MAGA right. The FMAD Club will once again have a booth there, and we are looking for volunteers to help us set up, staff it, and take it down at the end. It’s a great opportunity to tell others about our local club! Please let leadership know if you are interested in helping. For more information about the festival, including a site map, parking & shuttle information, & FAQ, click here: Independence Fest 2025 Democratic Candidates are welcome to help staff the booth, pass out lit, and talk to voters. Sign up here for a spot and a timeslot at our FMAD booth: FMAD @ Independence Fest Contact FMAD leadership for more information.

FMAD July Club Meeting
When: Wednesday, July 16th, 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm
Where: Creekwood Christian Church, Great Room/Common Area, 2660 Forest Vista Dr., Flower Mound, TX, 75028
What: Join us for our monthly club meeting! At this month’s meeting we are going to learn more about ways you can get involved in your local town/city government. Come learn about the various academies, like the Citizen’s Academy, the Citizen’s Fire Academy, & Citizen’s Police Academy, as well as Boards & Commissions. Come learn about what they do, when they meet, and when & how you can apply. Volunteering in your town/city not only connects you to the community in an important and non-partisan way, but such service can open up more opportunities for you to participate and lead in the future. We will also have Beth Porter Varma joining us to talk about the Texas Water Project and how we can support the homeless over the course of this hot Texas summer. We will be accepting donations of bottled water at our July & August meetings, so be sure to bring a case or two to donate. We will also continue working through Timothy Snyder’s book “On Tyranny — 20 Lessons from the 20th Century.” Join us as we learn about & discuss Snyder’s 20 different strategies we can use to defend our democracy against an authoritarian government and preserve our freedoms. The book is available at most libraries, bookstores, and for purchase online. It’s a very short book (128 pages) that can be read or listened to by audiobook in under 2 hours. Folks who want to can feel free to read or listen to it beforehand, but it is NOT a prerequisite. We are taking it in chunks at a time. Come learn with us how to resist fascism effectively together. Feel free to sign up and let us know you’re coming through this Mobilize link: FMAD July Club Meeting
