“Seasons change, and so do we.” — Nikki Che
Spring is a welcome change in some ways and not so welcome in others. We welcome the warm weather and green growth and bees and butterflies. We enjoy them, celebrate their return from the death & dormancy of winter. We worry about extreme weather, destructive storms, and disease-spreading insects. For these, we prepare. In this political season we’re now in and entering we do still have much to celebrate — our worker bees are buzzing about, doing the work; seeds of friendship, of change, and of protest, planted early and nurtured, are now blossoming. Those newly-emerged are finding us, flitting about, flower to flower, being nourished, finding safety in our friendly yards. But we also have much to prepare for. Stormy weather is coming. The swiftness of their development, their unpredictability, and their potential for destruction are not unknown to us. And so we prepare, we warn others, we protect, we provide, and we ready ourselves to rise to help others caught in the destructive path in the aftermath. Why? Because we are more than a club. We are a community. And together, we can weather the fiercest of storms. So mark your calendars (or use the attached calendar we have marked for you) and make your plans to join us for this month’s variety of activities, including our next informative club meeting “On Tyranny,” and make your plans to vote early in the upcoming May Joint Election. The weather and this current political climate may be savage, but if we come together and work together, we can weather these storms, protect one another, and preserve our democracy.
